The Quantum Completeness Problem
Quantum mechanics (QM) is complete in a precise sense. It cannot be supplemented by more informative descriptions of physical systems given certain reasonable assumptions; this is what the no-hidden-variables proofs show. Theorems of Kochen-Specker-type (KS theorems) crucially employ an assumption of context-independence of the observables considered while those of Bell-type theorems use an ass...
متن کاملOn Approximate Birkhoff-James Orthogonality and Approximate $ast$-orthogonality in $C^ast$-algebras
We offer a new definition of $varepsilon$-orthogonality in normed spaces, and we try to explain some properties of which. Also we introduce some types of $varepsilon$-orthogonality in an arbitrary $C^ast$-algebra $mathcal{A}$, as a Hilbert $C^ast$-module over itself, and investigate some of its properties in such spaces. We state some results relating range-kernel orthogonality in $C^*$-algebras.
متن کاملThe Completeness Problem for Modal Logic
We examine the completeness problem for Modal Logic: given a formula, is it complete? We discover that for most cases, completeness and validity have the same complexity – with certain exceptions for which there are, in general, no complete formulas. To prove upper bounds, we give a game which combines bisimulation games and tableaux, and which determines whether a formula is complete. The game...
متن کاملThe Completeness Problem of Ordered Relational Databases
Support of order in query processing is a crucial component in relational database systems, not only because the output of a query is often required to be sorted in a specific order, but also because employing order properties can significantly reduce the query execution cost. Therefore, finding an effective approach to answer queries over ordered data is important to the efficiency of query pr...
متن کاملThe Java 5 generics compromise orthogonality to keep compatibility
In response to a long-lasting anticipation by the Java community, version 1.5 of the Java 2 platform referred to as Java 5 introduced generic types and methods to the Java language. The Java 5 generics are a significant enhancement to the language expressivity because they allow straightforward composition of new generic classes from existing ones while reducing the need for a plethora of type ...
